Beamish Primary School Selected as Early Adopter for Government’s New Breakfast Club Scheme

Beamish Primary School is delighted to announce that it has been chosen as an early adopter of the government’s new Breakfast Club Scheme. The initiative, designed to ensure every child starts their school day with a nutritious meal, aims to support children learning, concentration and overall wellbeing.

As one of the first schools in the country to take part in the scheme, Beamish Primary School will provide free, healthy breakfasts to all pupils, ensuring no child starts the day hungry.

Karen Telfer, Executive Headteacher at Beamish Primary School, said ‘We are incredibly proud to be an early adopter of this fantastic scheme. A healthy breakfast can make a huge difference in a child’s ability to concentrate and engage in their learning. This initiative will not only benefit our pupils academically but will also provide vital support for families in our community.’

The government’s Breakfast Club scheme is to deliver on the Labour governments promise to help support working parents by allowing them to drop their children off at school earlier than usual for free. Government research shows most parents (87%) think breakfast clubs are a good chance for children to socialise, and two thirds (66%) recognise the value of clubs providing educational activities.

Breakfast clubs have been shown to boost children’s reading, writing, and maths by an average of 2 months.

By selecting Beamish Primary School as an early adopter, the government has recognised the school’s commitment to student welfare and its strong community values.

The Breakfast Club will be open every school morning, offering a variety of healthy options, including cereals, toast, fruit and much more!
